Developing a Personal Brand

I just read Chapter 2 of Essentials of Social Media Marketing and there are many great tips and tricks that I think I should share. If you are wanting to create your own personal brand and need tips on how to market it, these are sure to help.
The first tip that I found most useful is to identify your target audience. This will be very helpful when trying to market a brand. Once you have that down, determine your values and purpose. What do you want your brand to do for others? Why do you want your brand to do that for others? Once you have your purpose figured out, I think it is very important to make sure your brand is clear and appropriate for the audience. Audit your brand. Would you post this if you knew your boss would see it? If not, probably should not post it.

The book then goes on to suggest using LinkedIn. I personally am not fond of this platform, however, it may be usefull for others. It also suggests using Twitter as a way to market your brand. In my opinion, I believe that Twitter is mostly used for personal profiles instead of professional. I am not fully aware of how well Twitter does for professional brands, but it could be useful to try out.

Do you think Twitter and LinkedIn are useful for displaying a brand?

Finally, the book tells about the do's and don'ts of social media etiquette. This is very important information to consider when creating a market for a brand. Some of the tips it includes are to be respectful, consider your tone, do not spam post, use hashtags strategically, and to keep your professional and personal accounts completely separate. I personally believe that these specific strategies are the most important to creating a brand and marketing it efficiently.

Do you think these are useful tips? Are there any others that you would say are very important to consider?

  1. Honestly, the do's and the don'ts of the textbook for social media seem so obvious at first, but when you think about brands that actually follow these you can kinda see how this can become an issue.Maybe some of these tips need to be more mainstream?

  2. Personally I was floored by how incredibly obvious the tips and tricks were, and yet how easy they were to miss. It may seem like they were wasting paper by writing those tips down, however all of those tips were good reminders! Some of them I wouldn't have even thought about! How cool!!!
